Restaurants & Nightlife

Barbados restaurants are a culinary delight. There are many top class restaurants along the west and south coasts. It is said that variety is the spice of life, and the culinary diversity makes for an enjoyable time for visitors to the island. Wherever you decide to dine be sure to try the local fish including Mahi Mahi (locally known as Dolphin), Red Snapper, Tuna and Flying Fish. Within 10 minutes drive or taxi ride from Royal Westmoreland there are many choice restaurants, both stand-alone and within 5-star hotels such as Sandy Lane (the best hotel in the Caribbean and world renowned for a destination for celebrities such as Michael Winner and Simon Cowell). Here are some of our favourites (advance booking is essential for most and to secure a waterside table):

Lone Star

This renowned restaurant offers a spectacular oceanfront setting in a casual atmosphere right on the beach. Like many of the restaurants, it serves an eclectic mix of Asian and western cooking.

La Mer

Situated in the Port St. Charles development you can indulge yourselves in the breathtaking lagoon setting of waterfront properties and luxury yachts. Sunday brunch is a highlight.

The Mews

Situated in bustling Second Street in Holetown, this is one of the quaintest restaurants on the island. The Mews excels in excellent and alluring international and European dishes presented with classic simplicity and style. After hours the cosy bar becomes a trendy after dinner rendezvous and drinking spot.

Zaccios

A high energy bistro on the beach which is less expensive than it's more upmarket neighbours.

The Tides

Beautifully located on the edge of the sea, The Tides was restaurant of the year in 2006 and rated by Zagat in the top 3 on the island. A comfortable, coral stone lounge which houses the Tides Art Gallery, offers a relaxed atmosphere for cocktails.

The Cliff

Rated by Zagat as the leading restaurant in Barbados, it often appears in the list of the top 50 restaurants in the world. It is the first choice of many people for a special dinner or celebration. The oceanfront, cliff top setting is by any standard a stunning location and the ambience is truly magical, but it is the food itself that makes The Cliff so very special.

Other outstanding restaurants on the west coast worth noting are the Italian's - Il Tempio (Pavarotti's favourite) and Daphne's - Sassafras, Calabaza and Mango's. On the south coast there also several excellent restaurants such as Aqua, the Restaurant at Southsea and at the Crane hotel. In Bridgetown have lunch or dinner (with Jazz) at the Waterfront Café.

Although the west coast is quiet, you can find nightlife locally at Second Street in Holetown after dinner and at the Lord Willoughby pub, an English-style pub and entertainment venue. For more nightlife you need to travel to the south coast - only a 30 minute ride away. Hot spots such as Harbour Lights are a centre for the young crowd in Barbados.
