Points of Interest: Central & East

This part of Barbados is exceptionally verdant with rolling hills and sugar cane fields with quite a number of places of interest. Among them is Orchid World where there are thousands of orchid species on display. Meandering pathways wind their way between beautiful outcrops of coral rock gardens, cool and shady gullies and ponds. A short distance away is Fisherpond Plantation House, built circa 1660 and lovingly restored with period furniture, collections and paintings. An essential stop in the lofty hills of St. Thomas is Earthworks Pottery, a spectacular working pottery. Nearby you will find some of the island's most treasured sites - the exquisitely landscaped Flower Forest is a tropical haven of meticulously kept gardens with sweeping views over the Atlantic coastline. Harrison's Cave is one of the natural wonders of the Caribbean with its underground lakes and waterfalls. The nearby Welchman Hall Gully and Forest Reserve is a cool, deep, lush ravine filled with tropical vegetation. Along the East Coast Road is Cattlewash, with its wild and stunning Atlantic seascape. The quaint fishing village of Bathsheba includes Soup Bowl, the most popular surfing spot on the island. The Round House is a delightful spot for lunch in Bathsheba.
